Climate of Las Vegas

Overview

Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert in Southern Nevada in what is called a subtropical desert climate. It is characterized by hot summers and mild winters. For detailed information about the climate of each month, click on the links. Here's a brief summary of the Las Vegas climate:

  1. Summer (June to August): Summers in Las Vegas are extremely hot and dry. Daytime temperatures often exceed 100°F (38°C) regularly, with occasional peaks reaching 110°F (43°C) or higher. Nights are warm but relatively cooler compared to daytime, typically ranging from 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29C°). Rainfall during this season is sporadic but monsoon moisture does reach the area by July. This can produce localized thunderstorms and flash floods.

  2. Autumn (September to November): Autumn brings a gradual decrease in temperatures, with warm days and cooler nights. Average daytime temperatures range from 70°F to 90°F (21°C to 32°C), while nighttime temperatures drop to 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 15°C). Rainfall remains minimal during this time.

  3. Winter (December to February): Winters in Las Vegas are mild and mostly dry. Daytime temperatures range from 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 16°C), with occasional dips below freezing at night, especially in January. This is the wettest time of year but on average only three days per month see rain. Snowfall is rare, but it can occur, especially in the surrounding mountains.

  4. Spring (March to May): Spring brings a gradual warming trend, with mild to warm temperatures. Daytime temperatures range from 70°F to 80°F (21°C to 27°C), while nights are cool, ranging from 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 15°C). Spring is relatively dry.

Overall, Las Vegas experiences very low humidity throughout the year making it feel more comfortable even during the hottest months. However, visitors should be prepared for extreme heat during the summer and sudden temperature fluctuations during the transitional seasons.
