Las Vegas Weather in June: Essential Climate Guide

Introduction

June weather in Las Vegas is simple: hot and dry! If you don’t do well in the heat, pick a different month to visit because June is the 3rd hottest of the year. In fact, it averages 16 days above 100F and has twice reached the all-time Vegas record of 117F. Also, the first 110F day is normally hit by the end of the month. In addition to the heat, it is also the driest month of the year, only averaging a scant 0.04” for the entire month. In this post I will detail what to expect when you visit Las Vegas in June.

Temperatures

June is the 3rd warmest month of the year eclipsed only but the other two summer months, June and July. But of the three summer months, June has the fewest 100F/38C days. Only half the month exceeds 100F/38C on average. That’s not much consolation to visitors who don’t realize just how hot the Mojave Desert can get. Normal highs start at 95F/35C and just continue to climb to 103F/39C by the end of the month. The only thing that keeps June from being the hottest month is that is generally cools off at night pretty well. 60s and 70s overnight are most common, but if the high is over 100F/38C don’t expect lows to dip much below 80F/27C. Great for hitting the pool, not great for other outdoor activities. Hiking and golfing become downright dangerous in the mid-afternoon if you’re not well prepared. Copious amounts of water are necessary as well as good sun protection.

I find the best way to get a feel for the weather is by looking at what happened in a previous year. Here is the latest actual June temperatures (2023).

2023 is probably not a great year to show what it’s normally like because it ended up well below normal. It didn’t even hit 100F/38C until the very last day of the month. By contrast, 2022 had 18 days over 100F/38C including two 109F/43C days!

Rainfall

June is the driest month of the year which is saying something for Las Vegas. Rain here is about as rare as hitting the Wheel of Fortune jackpot at the airport. Usually if it does rain, it’s because a sneaky storm drops in the from the north or the monsoon started a bit early. But two-thirds of all Junes are completely dry.

What To Pack

  • In June it’s all about keeping cool. Bring light weight, loose fitting clothing.

  • Be sure to sun protection handy at all times. Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen are essential in June - especially if you will be at the pool, or doing a morning hike.

  • Reusable water bottle.

  • Comfortable shoes are a must. Las Vegas involves a lot of walking, especially along the Strip. Comfortable shoes are essential to prevent getting tired and blisters.

  • Swimwear is necessary if you plan to take a dip.

Don’t Forget These Other Things:

    • A portable charger. I know from experience if you forget one it’s gonna cost you an exorbitant amount to replace it if you have to buy it on the Strip.

    • Remember to pack your necessary medications as well as personal care items like toiletries, hand sanitizer, and lip balm.

    • Don't forget to bring your ID, credit cards, travel insurance information, and any other essential documents you may need for your trip. Seems obvious but I’ve done it.

Sunrise/Sunset

Sunrise on June1st starts at 5:24 AM. By the end of the month the sunrise is 5:27 AM. Sunset at the beginning of the month is 7:52 PM and by the end is 8:01 PM. There is about 14.5 hours of daylight each day. Remember, Las Vegas is in the Pacific Time Zone - same as Los Angeles.

Safety Tips

  1. Stay hydrated: It’s starting to get hot and the desert is very dry! Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, even if it’s a little cool. And remember alcohol adds to dehydration. Frozen alcoholic drinks can give you stomach cramps as well.

  2. Lightweight Clothing: During the daytime you’ll need lightweight and breathable clothing. Opt for materials like cotton or linen, which allow air circulation and help you stay cool.

  3. Protect against sun exposure: The sun is intense in June in the desert. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to shield yourself from harmful UV rays, especially if you’re hiking or golfing.

  4. Know Your Limits: Las Vegas offers a wide range of distractions and people seem to forget walking outside from casino to casino can take its toll when it’s hot. Pace yourself, drink responsibly, and take advantage of air conditioning often.

Conclusion

The weather in June is hot but not as hot as other summer months. To be sure, this is a great pool month, but the heat will get to you if you stay in it too long. Many visitors like to enjoy frozen alcoholic drinks and while seemingly refreshing, sometimes the cold and sugar can actually cause stomach cramps. In fact, all alcohol only adds to dehydration so be careful. If you’re going to do outdoor activities like hiking, biking, or golf, try to do it early in the day. Be prepared for the dry weather and sunshine by having lots of water on hand as well as sun protection.
